Hey there,

Black Friday is here.

And while Black Friday can be a dazzling whirlpool sucking money out of your bank account, conscious spending will help avoid this consumerism trap.

With conscious spending, you only buy what you need and not what is dangling in front of you.

Here's an example:

I've had a guitar lying around in the house for almost a year. But I haven't got to learn how to play it yet.

And recently, Yousician struck this pain point by offering me a Black Friday deal of 50% off on their yearly plan.

While this is a great offer, I let it pass.

I don't see myself dedicating too much time learning how to play my guitar anytime soon.

And falling into this discount trap would've wasted my money without reaping any benefits.

So, while the deals can be tempting this Black Friday, only buy what you truly need.

You can read more about conscious spending in an article I wrote on Hulry.

Now, grab a coffee, sit tight, and enjoy this week's issue:

Apps & Services

Cron ➔

Superpowers for your calendar

Cron is hands-down the best calendar app I've used to date. Scheduling meetings, moving them around while taking care of timezones become super easy with Cron. I love Cron's command bar, which lets me navigate my calendar, schedule meetings, and do more by typing out simple commands. Right now, Cron supports Google Calendar and is only available on macOS. Cron is available on an invite basis. But, Raphael, Cron's CEO, has generously provided 100 invites for Hulry subscribers. Enter your email here to get an invite while they last.
Column ➔

A sophisticated social network

Column is a beautiful new social network for having meaningful discussions with people around the world. Column is divided into a common channel called The Square, where everyone can post thoughts and links, and then there are interest-specific columns. Think of a column as a subreddit. You can create a new column or join an existing one and take part in the discussion. Column is in beta and is currently invite-only.
Clarity Notes ➔

Take notes while watching a YouTube video

YouTube, apart from being an entertainment source, is also a hub for learning. And nothing cements new topics into our minds better than taking notes during a tutorial. With this handy Google Chrome extension, you can take notes in markdown side-by-side while watching a YouTube video. You can even timestamp your notes for easy reference to parts in the video. Clarity Notes is free to use.
CleanMyMac X ➔

The best cleanup tool for macOS

I've been using CleanMyMac X regularly for years to keep my MacBook clean of junk and old files that are no longer needed. With their Space Lens feature, I've removed GBs of unnecessary files from my system that I didn't even know existed. They're running a Black Friday discount of 30% on their plans (starting 12 am PST). So, if you were looking to get a good cleanup tool for your Mac, you can save some bucks with this offer.

Past, Present, and Future — spending too much time at a single time can be detrimental to you. Remorse of the past or worrying too much about the future brings no joy. Similarly, living only in the present might leave you vulnerable to future changes. Use the 1/9/90 ratio to distribute these time perspectives in your life.
What To Do When Reading a Book? (8 While-Reading Activities) ➔

11 min read

Merely reading a book is of no use. You can get through a hundred books and still end up learning nothing from them. Setting the right intention and taking the time to understand what the author is trying to teach will help you juice the maximum learning out of each book. Read this article to know more.
I work 5 hours a day, and I've never been more productive ➔

Longer hours doesn't equate to more quality work done. This is true especially for knowledge workers where we can only work our brains for so long. Productive hours are limited, and if you learn how to optimise your day and your task list, you can get a lot done in less time.
The Limits of Investing Sanity ➔

Ups and downs in all trading markets are tied to the emotions of other investors and speculative stories prominent figures like Elon Musk say to jump up crypto prices. However, if you learn to understand your risk appetite and play the long game, you can avoid these crazy fluctuations and come out richer in the end.
