Occasionally, I'd drag a folder to a destination that already has another folder with the same name.

In such situations, macOS Finder offers us two choices: stop the transfer or replace the destination folder with this newly dragged folder.

This is a problem when I want files from both folders to remain intact.

Turns out, there's a hidden action that allows this kind of merge.

While dragging a new folder to a destination containing a folder with the same name, we can hold the ⌥ key to reveal a third option called Merge:

The new Merge option combines files from both folders into the destination folder. Thus, it preserves everything instead of replacing important files.

This might not be an everyday situation for you, but when you find yourself in one, remember this action.

Apps & Services

Droppy

Make your MacBook notch useful

I’ve tried many notch apps on my MacBook, but this one looks and works better than the others I’ve used. It’s a notch status bar, file tray, clipboard and more built into a single app. And the design looks like the new Siri AI liquid glass HUD. Available on macOS for $9.99 one-time.
‎Hibi Calendar

A beautiful app to see your events and tasks

This is one of the most fun integrations of events and tasks I've seen. You see a large wall calendar page for each day and a list of your events and tasks pulled from Reminders. Switch to the Week or Month view to see a high-level view. Beautifully designed. Available on iOS and is free for basic use.
Serialbox

Turn your days into a comic book

This app lets you capture your memories in a comic book. Shoot photos, and they automatically become comic artwork, which you can then arrange within a comic panel with comments to form a story. Available on iOS and free to start.

88 Prompts for Long Term Thinking

These thinking prompts were originally part of an internal memo of The Long Now Foundation that Kevin has now published publicly. I’ll think about this the most: “Plans vs perspective: Long-term planning is a type of answer; because answers are fixed they can become irrelevant during compounding change. Long-term perspective is a type of question; because questions are open they can remake their meaning during change.”

If, like me, you, too, have a hard time maintaining a journal, try making one of these experience lists instead. I’m eager to try the “Sensory Diary List” the next time I’m out and have some time to spare.
