At this point, it has become a ritual to free up space on my MacBook because it frequently runs on low storage space, but this time, instead of running an automated cleaning tool, I used DaisyDisk to find out what's taking up so much space.

And it turns out that macOS maintained a huge library of snapshots of two wallpapers that I had used long ago.

Each of these files was around 10 MB in size; there were 4,454 such files in my system, taking up a whopping 51.3 GB of disk space:

Surprisingly, this folder was left untouched by the cleaning tools I used, such as Mole, and therefore, flew under the radar. I cleared up 50 GB of disk space by deleting everything in that folder.

This has been a reported issue for a while, but I don't see anything piling up again, so I believe it's fixed.

The exact file path might differ for you, but it's worth investigating the com.apple.wallpaper.caches folder under a root folder called private on your system to see if your Mac has a large cache, too.

Note: Since this isn't a regular folder, I'd suggest you proceed with caution when clearing files from here. I didn't see any issues after I cleared the folder, but do it at your own risk. 😄

Apps & Services

Breeze

A better-looking version of LocalSend

This app is a quick and intuitive option to share files between macOS, iOS and Android. I like the shake gesture on Mac, where you can select files, shake them to open a drop target and send everything to your Android or iOS phone. Available on macOS, iOS and Android and is free for basic use.
Mat

Create fun sticker dumps with friends and family

A fun app where you can decorate a mat along with your friends and family using letter cutouts, pre-made and generated stickers from your photos, and then add it as a widget on your phone’s home screen. Available on iOS for beta testing.
Super Drag

Drag to search your selected text

I didn’t realise how handy this extension would be until I used it for a while. With this extension installed, you can drag and leave selected text on any page to quickly search it on your default search engine. Doing the same on links opens them in a new tab. Available on Google Chrome for free.

Handy Shortcut

L

Quickly focus the address bar in the Google Chrome macOS app.
