Issue #198 | Subscribe

With a new year arriving in a few days, I want to close this year’s last issue with a lovely quote from Madeleine Dore's book:

“A rut isn’t something we need to shy away from or rid from our lives — but rather something that can reveal to us a new way forward, and even prompt us to introduce variety back into our days.”

It’s true.

A rut is usually a precursor to growth.

Understanding that we are in a rut can motivate us to shake things up in our lives, encourage us to try new experiences, and step out of the “this is how it’s always been done” mindset.

This is particularly true when we’re changing jobs or careers, as we often notice that we’ve been in a monotonous routine for a while.

And also, to introduce variety through many tiny aspects, such as travelling to a new place, trying out a new cuisine, or even changing how we look and dress.

Ruts introduce variety, and variety keeps life interesting.

With this in mind, let’s be more aware of tiny to significant ruts in our lives this new year.

Catch yourself when you feel like you are longing for a change, and take some time and effort to actually shake things up once in a while.

Here’s to a year of new experiences, outlook, and a more interesting, better version of ourselves.

Happy holidays! 🎄

Now, before you move on to the rest of this newsletter issue, here are a few words from:

This Week's Sponsor

The end of the year is when most of us start planning for 2026.

Griply helps you structure that planning process. Map out your goals on a Gantt-style timeline, break them down into subgoals, habits, and tasks, use progress charts, the calendar, daily planner and widgets to stay on track.

Many people are moving from Todoist, TickTick, and Things because Griply doesn’t just track tasks, it connects every action to your bigger picture.

Sponsorships are paid callouts seen by over 4,282 people every Friday. Promote your product or service.

Apps & Services

Dictionaries

A multilingual dictionary for Mac

If learning a new language is an ongoing goal or something you want to pick up in the new year, this app will be your friend. It integrates into the native macOS lookup popup and shows translations of the selected word. Available on macOS for $7.99 one-time.
Enhanced Image Viewer

Zoom, pan, and rotate images on any website

This browser extension makes zooming into images on websites a much better experience. Right-click on any image and open it in a dedicated view where you can zoom, pan, and tilt any image using your mouse. I found the zoom effect much smoother and easier than the regular pinch-to-zoom. Available on Google Chrome for free.
Cabbin

A scratchpad for your work

Cabbin gives you a workspace where you can throw your notes and tasks on the wall and get working. You can also add timers to your tasks, which can appear in PIP mode once started to keep you on track. Available on the Web for free.
