Issue #195 | Subscribe

After switching to the Moment Pro Camera (featured in last week's issue) for taking photos on my iPhone, I'm hooked to its minimal processing mode called Natural:

For a long time, I've disliked the extra processing and over-sharpening that the native Camera app on my iPhone applied to my photos.

While in some photos, the extra processing helped, it made most photos look too grungy and less appealing.

The ProRAW feature mitigates this to some extent, but I don't own a Pro model iPhone, so that wasn't an option for me.

A natural mode, as I believe was first introduced by Halide via its Process Zero feature, applies minimal processing to the photos coming out of an iPhone and preserves a softer, natural look, which you can tweak as required.

For example, here's a photo of my dog that I took using the Moment Camera app's Natural mode:

The shot preserved most of the soft, flowing golden light, which would have mostly been lost with the native app's over-processing.

The photos come out looking much like they're from a nice film camera.

If you have an iPhone and you haven't tried an alternate app like Halide, Moment, etc., with a minimal processing mode, install one and try a few photos.

You might need to slightly edit the photos, which can be easily done via the edit mode in the Photos app. But the end result will probably look much better.

By the way, I'm running a Black Friday discount on Shakkei macOS app licenses.

You can use the code BF25 at checkout to get a 25% discount on all license types.

Now, speaking of better results, have you tried Snippetbar yet?
