I saw a post on Threads where the author talked about replacing his expensive cloud storage setup with a local NAS or Network Attached Storage.

The idea is sound, and many people, including me, work with a storage setup similar to this, but as people have commented on that post, there's a question on reliability.

A NAS stores data reliably by making copies of the same file across multiple hard drives. If one drive fails, you still have your data intact in one or more drives.

But what if the entire NAS, including all hard drives, is lost or damaged due to a disaster or another incident?

As a precaution against such cases, I use a hybrid model I've previously explained in a blog post.

If your cloud storage costs are growing to accommodate your collection of photos, videos and other files, a hybrid solution like mine can be a robust approach to storing files without bleeding too much money.

If you already have a storage setup that's working well for you, I'd love to know more about it. Reply to this email and let me know.
